Turkish lawmaker thinks French parliament will adopt resolution on incidents of 1915

ISTANBUL (A.A) - December 21, 2011 - The head of Turkish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee said on Wednesday that he thought the French parliament would most probably adopt a resolution on Armenian allegations regarding the incidents of 1915. Volkan Bozkir said it seemed that the French parliament would pass the law on Thursday. "However, there is a senate stage, and I guess politics will be affected with our contacts and messages," Bozkir told reporters at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport as he returned from Paris, France. Bozkir headed a Turkish parliamentary delegation that held talks in the French capital to prevent the parliament from adopting the resolution criminalizing the denial of Armenian allegations.  Volkan Bozkir said French politicians and people who attached importance to Turkish-French relations should launch initiatives to prevent the resolution from being adopted. "If the Senate adopts the resolution, then it will have serious harm on France and Turkish-French relations," Bozkir also said. A French parliamentary commission adopted the mentioned resolution on December 7. The resolution will be voted at the general assembly on Thursday. It envisages "one-year prison term and 45,000 Euro fine for those who deny genocide recognized by French laws." The French Parliament ratified a resolution saying that "France recognizes the Armenian genocide of 1915" on January 29, 2011.
