Ugandan President Hails Iran’s Steadfastness In Resisting West Pressure

Tehran, July 16, IRNA - - Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday praised Iran’s steadfastness in resisting western pressures and vindicating its nuclear rights.
He made the comments in a meeting with Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Reza Taghipour, who was in Uganda as the special envoy of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
“We know what is happening in Iran but we are glad that you can manage the situation despite heavy pressures from the West," Museveini said, adding that Uganda supports all countries making use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Taghipour said Iran has invited the Ugandan president to attend th forthcoming Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Tehran as one of the revolutionary countries of Africa.
He said despite the sanctions imposed by western powers, Iran has been able to export $48 billion worth of non-oil products.
The two sides discussed various bilateral and global issues including the situation in Syria and pledged to cooperate in fields such as ICT, agriculture, energy, science, technology and construction.
The Non-Aligned Movement, whose rotating presidency will be given to Iran on August 26, is a major international organization comprising 120 member states that represent the political, cultural, economic, and social interests of the developing world.
The movement, which is composed of two-thirds of UN member states, was established in 1961./end
