UN official praises Iran’s positive role in Iraq

TEHRAN, May 9 (MNA) – United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s special representative for Iraq praised the Islamic Republic of Iran’s leading and positive role in improving stability and security situation in Iraq and helping advance the political process in the country. Martin Kobler, who is also the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran on Monday. He also thanked Iran for providing Iraq with widespread support in order to improve the Arab country’s political, social, and economic situation. In addition, Kobler called on Iran to continue its cooperation with the UNAMI and help find solutions for the issues facing Iraq. Amir-Abdollahian thanked the UNAMI for making efforts to resolve regional issues. The Iranian diplomat also highlighted the role of the UN in Iraq and expressed hope that the international body will protect the interests of independent countries like Iraq without being affected by the pressure exerted by certain countries.
