Russian team to try confirm its leading positions at European Games in Baku
BAKU, June 17. /TASS/. The fifth medal day of the European Games in Baku will feature competitions in Artistic Gymnastics, Air Pistol Finals, and Wrestling, where Russian athletes have strong positions.
On Wednesday, athletes at the European Games will compete for 11 sets of medals.
Competitions will be also in Archery, Taekwondo, and Shooting.
Most sets of medals will be in Wrestling’s four categories - to 57, 65, 74 and 97 kilograms. Qualifications will begin at 08:00 Moscow time, and the fighting for medals are scheduled for 17:00 Moscow time.
Shooting competitions among men and among women will begin at 09:00 Moscow time.
Athletes will compete for the first set of medals in Artistic Gymnastics. The Russian national team will be competing for the gold.
In Taekwondo, women will compete in the category to 57 kg, and men - to 68 kg.
Russian women’s team will play volleyball in Group B against Croatia’s team at 20:00 Moscow time.
In Water Polo’s playoff Russia’s men team will have a quarter final game against Spain.
Besides, competitions in Table Tennis will nominate participants in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
The First European Games are held in Baku on June 12 to 28, with athletes competing for 253 sets of medals in 20 sports. Competitions in 11 sports - archery, athletics, boxing, beach volleyball, wrestling, cycling, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and triathlon - will enjoy the status of qualifies ahead of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
