Ten Gymnasts To Participate In Asian Junior Championship

JAKARTA, April 13 (Antara) - Ten gymnasts will participate in the Asian Junior Gymnastics Championship, which will be held from April 25 to 28 at Istora Senayan, an official from the Indonesian Gymnastics Association, Dian Arifin, said here on Thursday. "We have prepared five men and five women athletes. We hope one of the men athletes and one of the women athletes would win titles, so that they would be able to participate in the Junior Olympic Games in Buenor Sires, Argentina, in October," she stated. She noted that all the athletes taking part in the 15th Asian Junior championship must take part in all gymnastic events conducted by the committee to be able to qualify for the Junior Olympiad 2018. "Our junior athletes have not yet received rankings in Asia. So we have conducted tight selection for the Asian championship this year," she remarked. The 10 athletes come from Jakarta, East Java, Riau, and Ragunan Sports School. "They are still training in their respective places. Indeed, we have not organized a central training program in Jakarta due to funding and venue constraints" she noted. The athletes would try the arena at Istora on April 21, after the preparation for it is completed. "Athletes from Japan and South Korea will also try the arena earlier than the schedule on April 22," she pointed out. About 21 out of 23 countries have confirmed their participation in the championship.
