Islamabad, Nov 12, IRNA -- Pakistani educationist on Friday asked western states to respect Iran’s legitimate right to peaceful nuclear technology.
Talking to IRNA Syed Qandil Abbas, Assistant Professor of International Relations at Quaid-e-Azam University said that recent report by the IAEA chief on Iran’s nuclear program has placed a question mark over the credibility of the agency.
Expressing his views, the analyst said that there is no evidence available that Iran is developing a weapon oriented atomic program. He added that Iran has repeatedly said that its nuclear program is peaceful and the country has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
“Western claims against peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear program are based on assumptions,” he said.
He said Iran being the signatory of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) can use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. “West must respect Iran’s right,” said the scholar.
Syed Qandil Abbas said that Iran has been cooperating with the IAEA and its nuclear program is transparent.
The analyst said that US is helping some countries in developing their nuclear programs which are not even signatory to the NPT. “Israel is allowed to develop its nuclear program without any objection,” he noted.
He believed that western countries will not be able to pressurize Iran over nuclear program.
The educationist said that sanctions have proved a futile exercise and have made Iran self sufficient in every field. He added that Iran has developed its nuclear program indigenously which is a great achievement.
Syed Qandil Abbas was of the view that west has to bring Iran into the main stream politics to resolve all issues.
He said that recent IAEA report on Iran is not credible adding the agency should avoid issuing such baseless report in future.
Iran’s representative at the UN nuclear watchdog Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh has asked Europeans and westerners to accept Iran’s legitimate rights and to stop imposing irrational pressure, as these measures could not effect the will of the great Iranian nation./end
