50 States To Attend 25th Int’l Islamic Unity Confab

Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA -- Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Mohammad Ali Taskhiri said here on Sunday that thinkers from 50 countries will take part in the 25th International Int’l Islamic Unity Conference scheduled to be held from February 8-10.
Addressing a news conference, he added that the participants who are from among the elites, ministers of Islamic countries, scholars, Muftis and professors have earlier been invited to the event.
Participating countries in the conference include Russia, France, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Australia, Egypt, Malaysia, Sudan, the US, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Britain, Denmark, Jordan, Iraq, Indonesia, Gambia, China, Turkey, Afghanistan, Senegal, Yemen and the UAE, he noted.
Some 30 Iranian Shiite and Sunni thinkers will also be present at the event, Taskhiri said.
He further stated that concurrent with the conference at Azadi Hotel in Tehran, ceremonies marking birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) will be held in border provinces including Sistan-Baluchestan, Khorasan, West Azarbaijan, Kermanshah and Golestan.
Paving the way for unity and solidarity in the Islamic world, providing an opportunity for scholars to share views and review problems facing Muslims and presenting suitable solutions are among the objectives of the conference, he said.
This year’s event will mainly focus on the topic ‘Islamic Awakening’, Taskhiri said, noting that the event will help promote unity and solidarity among the Islamic sects.
A total of 70 articles have so far been submitted to the secretariat of the conference, he said./end
