Self-sufficiency boosts political independence: Supreme Leader

TEHRAN, April 30(MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that self-sufficiency will boost the country’s political independence. The Leader made the remarks in an address to thousands of workers from across the country at a meeting in Tehran on Sunday, held ahead of International Workers’ Day, which is celebrated on May 1. “The realization of the country’s various goals, including political independence, requires self-sufficiency and economic independence, and economic independence depends on the promotion of national production, and national production will be encouraged through demonstrating true, collective, practical respect for Iranian labor and capital,” he stated. He also said that the enemy has focused its efforts on its economic plot against the Islamic Republic. “The signs of this major plot are becoming more evident in the current situation, but, God willing, the Iranian nation will overcome these obstacles as resolutely as they removed other obstacles,” he noted. Workers, entrepreneurs, chief executive officers of state-owned and private companies, and other members of the business community should try to foil the enemy’s economic plot through redoubling their efforts, he said. The people should also demonstrate their determination to oppose the enemy by purchasing domestic products, he added.
