Thai authorities busy in salvaging derailed freight train

BANGKOK, May 6 (TNA) - Workers of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) on Sunday were still trying to salvage a freight train which derailed in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Ron Phibun district on Saturday afternoon, disrupting southbound services. The freight train left Bangkok while en route to Hat Yai district with 17 carriages, including the locomotive and a staff carriage, and accidentally derailed near a village in Ron Phibun district. SRT workers have to use crane in lifting the ill-fated cargo train and repaired the damaged rail and sleepers. But their works came under great difficulty due to scattered rains and soft soil in the area. The SRT has projected it would take at least 15 hours for its workers to complete the repairs. (TNA)
