NAKHON NAYOK, May 7 (TNA) - Thai police Monday nabbed a job broker and 35 illegal Lao workers hidden inside two pickup trucks heading back their country.
Police Major General Chavalit Sawangpeauch, Commander of Anti-Human Trafficking Division, said at a press conference that police stopped the trucks in Ongkharak district and found 35 illegal Lao workers, comprising of 15 males and 20 females, four of whom age under 18, hidden at the back of the vehicles.
Police Major General Chavalit said the police also arrested the job broker, identified as Uthai Saeng-Chompoo, who later confessed that he planned to transport the illegal migrant workers to a ferry port in eastern Ubon Ratchathani province’s Seamraj district before they would catch a ferry and cross the Mekong river back to their country.
He said some of the workers had worked in Thailand for more than three year, noting that most of them worked at Thai factories, construction sites, and restaurants. (TNA)
