Iran FM, Kuwaiti Emir Discuss Regional Developments

Tehran, May 21, IRNA – Iran's FM Ali Akbar Salehi who is now on an official visit to Kuwait, conferred on Sunday with Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments. In the meeting, Salehi submitted a letter from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the Kuwaiti Emir inviting him to attend the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran in August-September. Referring to the current friendly ties between both countries, Salehi said Iran underlines prevalence of peace, stability and friendship in the Persian Gulf region as well as having friendly ties with its neighbors. He also called for removal of problems and misunderstandings through dialog among countries of the region. Ill-wishers try to sow seeds of discords between religious sects in the region to get fish from troubled waters, he said. He invited all countries of the region to exercise rationality in dealing with regional developments and forge unity through collective cooperation, Salehi said. To resolve peoples problems in the region, their demands should be met, he said. The Kuwaiti Emir, for his part, thanked President Ahmadinejad for his invitation letter and expressed hope to attend the NAM summit in Tehran. He conveyed the warm greetings of the Kuwaiti people and government to Iranian officials and expressed hoe to witness further expansion of all out relations and cooperation between the two countries. “We all live in a unique environment and there is no doubt that all are suffering from existing problems which can be removed through collective cooperation,” the Emir said. Referring to the upcoming meeting between Iran and G5+1 in Baghdad, he hoped the meeting would be constructive with satisfactory results./end
