Iran Official Stresses Unity Between Sunni, Shiite Muslims

Cairo, May 22, IRNA – Head of Iran’s interest section in Cairo Mojtaba Amani stressed the importance of unity between the Shiite and Sunni Muslims. In a meeting with the current Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmed Mohamed el-Tayeb, Amani said dirty hands are involved in spreading wrong thoughts and incorrect religious decrees in order to sow seeds of discord among Shiite and Sunni Muslims. Amani referred to the religious decree issued by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei forbidding sacrilege of close companions and spouses of the Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH) as well as the religious signs belonging to the Sunni Muslims. He further urged direct connections between the Sunni and Shiite senior scholars. The Iranian official also hailed the role of Al-Azhar in promoting proximity and understanding between Sunni and Shiite Muslims to confront enemies./end
