Iran-Armenia Sign Security Agreement

Moscow, July 11, IRNA – A security agreement between Iran and Armenia was signed in the presence of Iran Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar and Head of Armenian Police force Lieutenant-General Vladimir Gasparyan. The security and disciplinary agreement between the two countries was signed by Iran deputy Interior Minister in security and disciplinary affairs Ali Abdullahi and General Gasparyan on Tuesday. Cooperation in the fields of organized crimes, drug smuggling, security-disciplinary issues and border affairs have been mentioned in the agreement. In the signing ceremony, Mostafa-Najjar, by referring to developing trend of cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan, underlined that a new chapter of security cooperation has begun between the two countries. He expressed Iran’s readiness to transfer experiences in the fields of fight against drug smuggling, training police officers and custom experts, organized crimes, repatriation of criminals and convicted persons and said that the signed agreement will be a desirable framework for cooperation between the two countries. Armenian police head Gasparyan praised Iran cooperation and called the signed agreement a turning point in Tehran-Yerevan relations. He also expressed his country's readiness to use Iran experiences in the fields of security and disciplinary issues. Iran’s Interior Minister also met with Armenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan on Tuesday . In the meeting, Mohammad-Najjar said that bilateral ties between the two countries are in an excellent level and given the opportunities, there is a good chance for developing ties. Deputy premier of Armenia, by referring to importance of having ties with Iran for his country said that Armenia is ready to expand economic and commercial relations with Iran.
