Iranian SNSC secretary says democracy is the key to Syrian issue

TEHRAN, July 11(MNA)--During a meeting with Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League joint special envoy on Syria on Tuesday, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili, called on United Nations observers to prevent weapons and armed people from entering Syria. “Democracy, and not shipment of weapons and terrorist actions, is the key to the Syrian issue,” he added. “The record of certain governments, including that of the United States, in regard to supporting dictators and undemocratic approaches illustrates that such governments cannot be part of the Syrian solution, and regional people regard the U.S. government as a great part of regional problems and not a solution to them,” Jalili stated. And Annan emphasized Iran’s important role in resolving the Syrian crisis.
