Iran Urges ICRC To Take Serious Stand On Myanmar Events

Tehran, July 23, IRNA -- Head of Iran's Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Abolhassan Faqih in a letter to President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer urged him to take serious stand regarding the recent developments in Myanmar, including massacre of a group of Muslims there.
Faqih said the ICRC as a humanitarian body is expected to take serious action against violation of the human rights in Myanmar.
He reiterated the reports show that thousands of Muslims in Myanmar are exposed to aggressive behaviors, some have been killed and many arrested.
He then regretted that this human tragedy is ignored by the international societies.
Faqih also called on Myanmar’s government to positively respond to the international concerns over the issue./end
