Thai Buddhists observe Asanha Bucha Day
BANGKOK, August 2 (TNA) - Thai Buddhists nationwide make merit and offer food to monks to mark Asanha Bucha Day.
At Wat Rama IX Kanchanapisek temple in Bangkok, many Buddhists in white and plain colored clothes gave alms to 41 monks led by their abbot, Phra Thammabundit.
At Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan temple, many Buddhists observed Asanha Bucha Day by offering alms to 89 monks. They vowed do good deeds during the three-month Buddhist Lent and prayed for the good health of His Majesty the King.
Over in the North, students of Horpra School and other schools in Chiang Mai province joined a candle procession to deliver decorated candles to Wat Rajamonthian temple for monks to use during the Buddhist Lent.
In Tak province, Thai and Myanmar workers gave alms to monks at Wat Mae Sot Na Dan or Wat Luang temple. The event was also joined by Myanmar monks.
In the northeastern province of Mukdahan, Buddhist Lent candles, monk’s necessities, and robes were sold like hot cakes despite their high prices. Local Buddhists bought them for local monks to use during the Buddhist lent. (TNA)
