Army ready to pull out troops from Thai far South
BANGKOK, October 11 (TNA) - Thai Army Chief General Prayuth Chan O-cha has reiterated that the Royal Thai Army is ready to pull out troops from the Thai far South whenever the violent unrest in the region relieves and local security forces can take care of the situation.
General Prayuth told journalists that he has, in the meantime, ordered security units in the Thai deep South to ensure peace and order so that local traders can resume their businesses on Fridays as usual, without fears of insurgent attacks as threatened.
General Prayuth called on all parties concerned to work together to boost confidence and morale of people in the troubled region, noting that he has discussed with the Royal Thai Navy and the Royal Thai Air Force on possible solutions to the violent situation in the southern border region, focused on law enforcements rather than crackdowns, and has reported the proposed solutions to Thai Defence Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat.
According to the army-commander-in-chief, more than 40,000 soldiers outside the southern border region have been deployed to take care of the situation in the insurgency-affected Thai deep South. (TNA)
