Iranian Army completes second stage of airborne exercises

TEHRAN,Oct.31(MNA) – The second stage of the three-day airborne military exercises of the Iranian Army, entitled Zolfaqar 91, was completed on Tuesday. The war games are being held to upgrade the combat readiness of the Army’s airborne units and to increase the country’s deterrence capability against any military threats. During the second stage of the exercises, which are being held in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah, Army helicopters and planes managed to quickly transport airborne forces and paratroopers to the theater of operation, the deputy commander of the Army for operations said on Tuesday. The final stage of the exercises will be held in a large area near Gilan-e Gharb County on Wednesday, Brigadier General Ali Mehrabi added. During the first stage of the maneuvers, which was held on Monday, the commanders of airborne brigades and the Helicopter Command of the Army conducted reconnaissance operations and agreed on the final plan for the exercises.
