Jalili Warns Against Plots To Sow Discord Among Regional Nations

Tehran, Nov 13, IRNA – Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili on Monday underlined the need for vigilance vis-a-vis conspiracies to sow seeds of discord in the region. Speaking to the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Idris Barzani here on Monday, Jalili said, "Security is the prerequisite to any progress and development. Vigilance vis-a-vis conspiracies to divide nations and encourage insecurity in the region is necessary." He said Iran-Iraq borders are borders of peace, friendship and progress. Common principles, strategies, opportunities and threats result in promotion of cooperation and friendship, he added. Recalling high human and natural potential of Iraq, especially Iraqi Kurdistan, Jalili emphasized progress and development of Iraqi Kurdistan, through efforts to lessen people's sufferings remaining from Saddam's era. He said minor and marginal issues should not impede success of macro strategies. Barzani, for his part, thanked Iran for its strong support for people of Kurdistan under difficult conditions and said Iran-Iraq ties are growing in all spheres, in the economic domain in particular. He added that volume of trade exchanges between Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan alone stands at more than eight billion dollars./end
