Iranian speaker calls for establishment of anti-financial corruption organization

TEHRAN,Jan.8(MNA) – Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani called for the establishment of an organization to deal with cases of financial corruption. “The campaign against economic crimes requires an advanced structure, and, naturally, dealing with these crimes requires an organization to deal with great crimes,” Larijani stated in a speech during a conference about the importance of dealing with economic crimes. “According to the Constitution, the establishment of an anti-financial corruption organization is among the tasks of the Judiciary, but supervisory units, including the inspectorate organization and the audit court must help the organization,” he stated. Larijani added that the parliament is ready to make efforts to pave the way for the establishment of such an organization. A $2.6 billion financial fraud case, the most massive fraud case in the history of Iran, was uncovered in 2012 and triggered a wave of resignations and dismissals of the banking officials. Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani said that about 17 or 18 billion dollars worth of goods are smuggled into and out of the country annually which can create problems for the country’s economic system.
