Safavi: Iran Maintains Security Of Persian Gulf Region

Tehran, Jan 16, IRNA - Supreme Leader's Senior Advisor Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran maintains the security of the Persian Gulf region. Addressing a group of female Basiji (voluntary) forces, he said the Islamic Republic of Iran guarantees flow of energy from the region to world markets. Referring to regional and global developments, he said Iran and the entire region at a strategic turning point. Given the strategic status of Iran along with its geographical location in south-west Asia, he said the country's status is of prime importance given the conditions prevailing in its neighboring states such as Iraq and Afghanistan. The faithful Iranian nation has thwarted plots of the enemies, he underlined. The Iranian people wholeheartedly follow the guidelines of their Supreme Leader, he said. Iran plays a significant role in political, cultural, economic and security issues in south-west Asia, he said. Iran, Russia and China will continue resisting the US hegemony in south-west and south-east Asia and as predicted before the US troops would leave Afghanistan before schedule./end
