New power station opened on Samui Island
SURAT THANI, March 15 (TNA) - A new power station has been opened on Samui Island in Thailand's southern resort Surat Thani province to meet growing local demand for electricity over the next 10 years.
Thai Interior Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan told journalists on Friday, after inaugurating the 2nd power station on the resort island, that the newly-launched power plant is part of the government's plan on further developing the Samui Island as resolved at a previous Cabinet mobile meeting.
Jarupong acknowledged that the first and the second power plants on the Samui Island will be linked in the future to enhance the efficiency of power service provided to local people and businesses.
According to the interior minister, the Provincial Waterworks Authority also plans to start supplying tap water from mainland Khanom district, also in Surat Thani, as of 2014, through undersea pipes, to ensure sufficient water supply throughout the year despite uncertain weather and rainfalls on the Samui Island.
