Syrian President: Upcoming Presidential Election Will Strengthen Iranˈs Regional Status

Tehran, May 20, IRNA – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has said that June 14 presidential election in Iran will strengthen the countryˈs regional status. In an interview with Argentinian official news agency, Telma, the Syrian president predicted that the presidential elections in Iran would lead to some changes but such changes would not be to such an extent that the US expects. He said that Iran has become more important and stronger in comparison with ten years ago and now it plays a significant role in the region. Any political change in Iran will influence the entire region either positively or negatively, he noted. President Assad said that there is an old alliance between Iran and Syria which goes back to three decades ago./end
