Various activities held to mark Vesak Day 2013

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) - Various events and activities are organised in Thailand to mark Vesek (Visakha Bucha) Day 2013, which falls on May 24, commemorating the most significance of Buddhism, the Lord Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death coincidentally though in different years. The Thai government on Thursday organised a prayer ceremony, led by some 200 Thai and international Buddhist monks, at Bangkok's Government House, as part of nationwide commemoration of Vesak Day 2013. The activity was also aimed at paying tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, as well as all other members of the Royal Family. "Buddhism Week", organised by the Thai government, is also being held at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground in the Thai capital from May 18-24 to promote Buddhism, during which Thai Buddhists are encouraged not to commit all wrongdoings to pay tribute to the Lord Buddha.
