Iran-Russia Call For Joint Co-op To Maintain Caspian Sea Security
Tehran, July 8, IRNA -- Iranian and Russian navy commanders in a meeting on Sunday called for joint cooperation to maintain Caspian Sea security.
They met on the sidelines of the International Maritime Defense Show IMDS-2013 held in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Iranˈs Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayari and his Russian counterpart Viktor Chirkov conferred about regional and bilateral cooperation to maintain security of international and joint waterways.
The two commanders called for staging joint Navy exercises, exchange of ferrying of vessels to Iranian and Russian ports and joint instructional and technical cooperation.
In separate meetings with his German, Greek, Pakistani, polish, Kuwaiti and UAE counterparts, Sayyari discussed maintaining the security of international waterways and countering pirates and terrorism.
The Iranian Navy commander, heading a high-ranking delegation visited Saint Petersburg at the invitation of Russian minister of industry and trade to attend the International Maritime Defense Show IMDS-2013.
He is also scheduled to hold a press conference during his visit to Russia./end
