Germany, Britain support process of Iran nuclear talks
GENEVA,Nov.10(MNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, British Foreign Secretary William Hague, and German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle held a quadripartite meeting on Saturday morning on the sidelines of nuclear talks between Iran and world powers, which is being held in Geneva.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry official said after the meeting that Germany and Britain had supported the process of the Geneva talks.
It is said that France does not approve of the current process of talks, a fact which has hindered diplomatic efforts to reach a nuclear deal.
Zarif is also scheduled to hold a trilateral meeting with Ashton and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Saturday afternoon.
The meeting is meant to negotiate a deal to help resolve a decade-long dispute over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Britain said on Saturday important issues remain to be resolved at negotiations and there was no certainty that a deal could be reached during this round of talks despite “very good progress” so far, according to Reuters.
“These negotiations have made very good progress and continue to make good progress. But there are still important issues to resolve, so clearly they are not over yet,” Hague told reporters during a break in the talks.
“It’s too early to say that we will reach a successful conclusion today,” he said.
Earlier in the day, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told France Inter radio there are major stumbling blocks in an initial proposed text on a deal.
