Pakistan Condemns Terrorist Attack In Kabul’s Restaurant
Islamabad, Jan 20, IRNA - Pakistan Monday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a restaurant in Kabul on January 17 which killed foreigners and civilians.
The Foreign Ministry said that a Pakistani working with a United Nations was also killed in the attack on the Lebanese restaurant.
“We also reiterate our condemnation of terrorism in all its forms,” a Foreign Ministry statement said.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and offer best prayers for the speediest recovery of those injured,” it said.
The Taliban had claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
Afghan officials say that four United Nations (UN) employees and a senior International Monetary Fund (IMF) official were among 21 people killed during Friday night’s suicide attack in Kabul’s high-secured Wazir Akbar Khan area.
The bombers struck the restaurant frequented by foreigners in a busy dining time, detonating their bombs and firing at the people.
The dead included 13 foreigners and eight Afghans, Kabul police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai, has confirmed to the media.
The UN confirmed its four staff had been killed, with Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemning the attack as ˈhorrificˈ.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack, with the group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, saying it was carried out to avenge civilian deaths by foreign troops in central Parwan province.
Mujahid said 29 high profile foreign troops commanders and their eight Afghan guards were killed and several others injured in the attack on the Lebanese hotel./end
