Oman Speaker Underlines Promoting Unity In Islamic World

Tehran, Feb 17, IRNA – Omani Parliament Speaker Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal al-Mawali said on Sunday that Islam as the main factor behind the unity of the Islamic Ummah, saying that Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Islamic nations should aim at promoting unity among the Muslims. Al-Mawali, who is currently in Iran to attend the ninth meeting of IPU of Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, appreciated Iran for hosting the event. Muslimsˈ unity should be the main theme of the meeting as Islam underscores unity among the Muslims more than any other issue, he said upon his arrival in Tehran Mehrabad Airport. ˈI am sure that the Ninth Summit of the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held successfully in Tehran,ˈ Omani parliament speaker said. Vice-Speaker Mohammad Reza Bahonar welcomed the Omani Speaker, calling for promoting bilateral ties between Tehran and Muscat. He said that the Ninth Summit of the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation slated to be held on February 18-19 aiming to resolve the main challenges facing the Muslim World./end
