Candidate For New Attorney General Must Be Independent

Jakarta, Oct 28 (Antara) - A law observer expressed hope that President Joko Widodo would pick an independent candidate for the new attorney general. "The candidate must be entirely independent from any party or group," Kaspudin Nor, a commissioner of the Public Prosecution Commission (KKRI) said here on Tuesday. In addition the attorney general must have the managerial capability, a leader with an organizational skill to improve the professionalism of his subordinates, Kaspudin said. "He or she must be able to motivate all public prosecutors to carry out their duties to uphold justice," he added. The attorney general must have the courage to impose heavy punishment and sanctions on fraudulent subordinates and should give reward for good performing prosecutors to improve the image of the agency, he said. Certainly the attorney general must master the science of law and should be able to create synergy with other law enforcing agencies like the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), he said. "Selection of an attorney general provides a good momentum to improve the image of the prosecution office," he said.
