Tiger kills hunter in Russian Far East
VLADIVOSTOK, November 25. /TASS/. Environmental authorities in Russia's Far East are searching for an Amur tiger who killed a hunter in the Primorye Territory, the World Wildlife Fund Russia said on Tuesday.
Tiger tracks were found near the body of the 75-year old hunter who went missing several days ago, WWF Russia said.
The presence of two other big cats in the region hampers the search for the hunter's attacker, WWF said.
Amur tigers seldom attack humans. Some 90 percent of human-tiger conflicts are provoked by people.
The Amur tiger, also known as Siberian tiger, is on the Red List of Threatened Species. In 2010, Russia launched a national strategy to protect the Siberian tiger, the largest of the five tiger species. According to World Wildlife Fund, some 450 Siberian tigers are left on the planet.
