Thai police to suppress prostitution, human trafficking problems

BANGKOK, February 1 (TNA) - Thailand’s National police chief Police General Somyot Pumpunmuang has ordered police nationwide to urgently suppress prostitution and human trafficking problems, aimed at preserving Thailand’s image. Royal Thai Police Spokesman Police Lieutenant General Prawut Thawornsiri said the order was sent to Bangkok and provincial police commanders to suppress and arrest prostitutes using restaurants or karaoke shops as the front. Heavier punishment would be imposed upon those apprehended earlier. Heavier punishment, according to Pol. Lt. Gen. Prawut, would be imposed on police officers responsible for the area if the raids are made by policemen from other precincts. (TNA)
