Russia to actively participate in looking for political solutions to conflict in Yemen - foreign ministry

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Moscow insists on stopping any use of force in Yemen, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday. "The Russian approach is that it is necessary to stop any use of force. Both sides should immediately stop any armed confrontation and resume negotiations. Russia will continue to actively participate in the process of looking for political solutions to the conflict," Lukashevich said. The situation in Yemen started to rapidly deteriorate at the beginning of last week. Shiite rebels gained control over large part of the country. Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi fled the country. A coalition of Persian Gulf countries led by Saudi Arabia launched a military operation in Yemen and started delivering airstrikes at rebel positions in the country. The coalition is currently considering launching a ground operation in Yemen to oust Houthis. Read more
