Only Yemenis can decide on options of country’s political process - foreign ministry

MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. Only Yemen's people should decide on the options of the country’s political process, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday. A meeting between Russian presidential envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and United Nations chief’s special envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed took place earlier on Wednesday. "The two sides thoroughly discussed current developments in Yemen, paying special attention to the soonest implementation of the ceasefire regime, the absence of which leads to new victims among civilians and deepens critically poor humanitarian conditions in the country," the statement said, following the talks of the two diplomats. The Russian diplomat confirmed "the support for the UN task-orienteered efforts and personally Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who is working towards the organizing of the next round of the inter-Yemen consultations." "The sides expressed the opinion that the options of the inclusive political process may be coordinated only by negotiations, which can result in the restoration of Yemen’s nation-building and legitimacy under the respective decisions of the UN Security Council and the national dialogue conference," the statement said.
