Andrei Stenin Сontest Exhibition to be Put on in Athens
The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, which was created to support young photographers and raise public awareness about modern photojournalism and its purpose, continues an international tour.
ATHENS (Sputnik) – Athens will be the next stop on the international tour of the 2017 Andrei Stenin International Photo Contest. The works by the world’s best young photojournalists will be on display at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture at 7 Tzavella St., Chalandri, Athens. Admission is free. The exhibition will be open until November 2, Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm.
The exhibition is worth seeing above all for the heartbreaking work by Greek photographer Anna Pantelia featuring a portrait of a young refugee in the little village of Idomeni on the border with Macedonia. The photographer was able to capture a microcosm of the "European dream."
Among the other works are enchanting images of winter surfing in the Russian Far East captured by Russian photographer Yuri Smityuk; the peace and tranquility of a religious procession to the holy places of the Tma River depicted in a photo series by Russian photographer Svetlana Tarasova; photos of an odd wake/wedding from Hungarian photographer Balazs Beli; the story of a young resident of a tiny village in Western Siberia learning about the world by Russian photojournalist Alexei Malgavko, and many others.
Oksana Oleinik, curator of the Andrei Stenin International Photo Contest: "The tour of the winners' work has become an integral part of the contest, which is dedicated to supporting young photographers striving to master their profession. We are not just uncovering new names in photography for people in different countries, we are giving an opportunity to the world’s best photojournalists to gain exposure to a new audience and get its feedback. As curator of the contest, I do hope that the Athens exhibition will attract Greek photographers and that we will see an even greater number of works by talented photographers next year.”
Anna Pantelia, winner of the 2017 Andrei Stenin International Photo Contest, said: "It's a great honor to be among the winners of the Stenin Press Photo Contest because this contest is a way to remember the important work and the courage of a photographer like Andrei Stenin. I am also glad my work has been selected among incredibly good works from other talented photographers, which show that there are still important stories to be told around the globe. All this together motivates me to become better and give a voice to those who need to be heard."
The exhibition is part of an international tour launched in early September in Moscow. The goal of the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest is to support young photographers and raise public awareness about modern photojournalism and its purpose.
