Thai authorities look into pros and cons of digital money trading

Bangkok, January 18 (TNA) - The Bank of Thailand (BOT) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are thoroughly studying into the pros and cons of growing digital money trading, as ordered by Thai Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong. Apisak told journalists on January 17 that he wants the BOT and the SEC to examine whether the trading of digital money, if systematized, is beneficial to all stakeholders. "If the thorough study finds out that the systematic trading of the digital money, including Bitcoin, benefits to all relevant parties, its open trading should be allowed among investors in the country; if not, appropriate measures must be implemented to control the cryptocurrency trading to ease its risk factors", said the minister. The minister conceded that he, himself, views the digital money trading is not safe for investors because it is not the legal medium of exchange and its holders' accounts remain difficult for an accountable detection. The minister, thus, warned people who invest in the digital money to beware of the risks and carefully plan and decide on their trading of the cryptocurrency. (TNA)
