PM happy with Thailand’s better position in US human trafficking report
BANGKOK, June 29 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was happy and expressed gratitude towards the United States for moving Thailand from Tier 2 Watch List to Tier 2 in its Trafficking in Persons Report of 2018. He assured that Thailand would continue to seriously tackle human trafficking.
Col Athisit Chaiyanuwat, assistant government spokesman, said Gen Prayut was glad with the TiP Report that the US Department of State issued and Tier 2 covered the countries that have obviously tried to develop standard efforts to fight against human trafficking. Thailand had significantly improved the fight since two years ago when it had been in Tier 2 Watch List.
The assistant government spokesman also said that the prime minister was grateful that the US was aware of the Thai government’s determination to solve human trafficking. The government continued to do its best with the task, he said.
As the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations next year, Thailand would promote concrete efforts against human trafficking, Col Athisit said.
The prime minister also thanked government officials and other countries including the US and Australia as well as non-governmental organizations for their cooperation with the Thai government in the anti-human trafficking fight, he said. (TNA)
