Post-Soviet security bloc to develop security measures on Afghanistan border - Lavrov

BISHKEK, May 22. /TASS/. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will present additional security measures on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border at the November CSTO summit between the organization’s heads of states, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on the outcomes of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council held in Bishkek. "We have approved additional measures that will be delivered to the heads of state on the upcoming [CSTO] summit that will take place in November in Bishkek. [We have developed] offers on strengthening the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border area from the viewpoint of raising the ability of our Tajik allies to counter the terrorist threat," he said. Lavrov noted that the CSTO foreign ministers had prepared a document on CSTO member states fulfilling the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. The minister stated that the package of documents to be presented to CSTO heads of state would expand. Top diplomats of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are taking part in the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council. The Russian delegation is headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. During the meeting, the diplomats will discuss planned political statements by the member states of the organization.
