Social Development Ministry participates in GCC social protection workshop in Oman

Muscat, Apr. 24 (BNA): Abdelilah Hameed Abdulaal, Director of the Social Assistance Directorate at the Ministry of Social Development, participated in the meeting of officials responsible for social security systems and the accompanying regional workshop, held in the Sultanate of Oman.

The event brought together experts and specialists in social protection and social security, alongside representatives from the World Bank, the International Labour Organisation, and national statistical centres.

Organised in cooperation between the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf and the Executive Bureau of the Council of Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs, the workshop aimed to develop a unified Gulf framework for social protection systems by aligning statistical methodologies and standards. The goal is to improve the accuracy and comparability of national indicators at both regional and international levels.

Participants also discussed key challenges facing social protection systems in GCC countries and explored ways to enhance their efficiency and sustainability in line with the evolving needs of Gulf societies.

Sessions included extensive discussions on key recommendations and proposals, presentations on successful international models for advancing social security systems, and reviews of modern approaches that support the development of forward looking social policies. The workshop also highlighted the role of government entities in providing reliable data to support policymaking.
