HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad attends conclusion of Bahrain swim challenge

Manama, Apr. 25 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, attended the conclusion of the 170 kilometre Bahrain Swim Challenge, a relay event launched by His Highness to encourage athletes to embrace challenges.
The event concluded at Sofitel Zallaq, where His Highness welcomed the four swimmers: Abdulla Atiya, Fatima Al Mahmeed, Mariam Bin Laden and Andrew Donaldson. The swimmers rotated every three hours and completed a total of 180 kilometres, surpassing the original distance by 10 kilometres. They finished the challenge in 59 hours, 59 minutes and 6.52 seconds.
His Highness commended the swimmers for their achievement and said their determination and commitment served as a strong message to youth about ambition and perseverance. His Highness added that such events are more than sporting milestones, as they highlight the value of resilience and willpower.
His Highness also noted that hosting distinctive sports initiatives strengthens Bahrain’s position on the regional and international sports stage and encourages a culture of sport and challenge.
The swimmers said they were proud to complete the challenge and thanked His Highness for his continuous support and motivation.
