Bahrain, US sign agreement on peaceful nuclear energy cooperation

Washington, July 16 (BNA): As part of the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the United States of America, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the US signed a cooperation agreement in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Bahrain by Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and on behalf of the US by Marco Rubio, United States Secretary of State.
The agreement aims to enhance cooperation between the Kingdom and the US in the field of nuclear energy, recognising its positive role in sustainable development and energy security. It aligns with Bahrain’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 and supporting global efforts to address climate change and environmental protection.
Dr. Al Zayani commended the strategic cooperation between Bahrain and the US in the field of clean nuclear energy, describing the agreement as a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between the two countries.
He said that the agreement reflects the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the government led by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He noted Bahrain’s interest in benefiting from the extensive American expertise in this domain.
The Foreign Minister emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to meeting its civil nuclear energy needs in a manner consistent with national and shared security interests. He said the agreement builds on the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA) signed between the two countries in 2023, which enhanced cooperation in defence, security, emerging technologies, trade, and investment.
Dr. Al Zayani highlighted that both countries are advancing their partnership by deploying modern technologies to provide safe, secure, and reliable civil nuclear energy, reinforcing energy security and supporting the use of low carbon energy sources.
He emphasised that the agreement reflects the advanced level of cooperation and the mutual commitment to enhancing public-private partnerships between the two countries in pursuit of shared interests.
The signing was attended by Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States, and members of the accompanying delegation.
