Health Minister commends achievements of Bahrain’s healthcare sector

Manama, July 17 (BNA): Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, received Dr. Asad Hafeez, Acting Representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Bahrain, representatives from the Public Health Directorate, and teams recognised with international awards and accreditations for leading health initiatives. The awards included national honours, such as the National Genome Project Team and the Organ Donation Platform Team, as well as international accolades recognising the National Influenza Centre Team and the National Measles and Rubella Elimination Programme Team.
The Minister emphasised that the notable achievements made by Bahrainis across various sectors, particularly the health sector, reflect the unwavering commitment to ongoing development. She emphasised that these efforts consolidate the Kingdom’s standing at all levels and contribute to the comprehensive development process, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. She also commended the efforts of healthcare and administrative staff, whose contributions have raised the quality of services provided to both citizens and residents.
She expressed her pride in these achievements, which reflect the excellence of Bahrain’s national talents, noting that these successes result from the ongoing directives of the Supreme Council of Health and active partnerships with international organisations, foremost the WHO.
The Ministry of Health recently received two awards under the Bahrain Digital Content Awards 2025 for the organ donation platform "And Who Revived It" and for enrolling participants in the National Genome Project in the "Health and Wellbeing" category. Both initiatives were recognised for significantly advancing preventive healthcare and improving access to advanced services using digital technologies.
The Minister also commended the efforts of the National Influenza Centre at the Public Health Laboratories, which earned the WHO’s Certificate of Proficiency for the twelfth consecutive year in the field of influenza and coronavirus (COVID-19) detection, demonstrating the high standards of Bahrain’s laboratory system.
Dr. Jaleela commended the achievements of the National Measles and Rubella Elimination Programme, which was recently renewed with international certification by the World Health Organization for the continued elimination of both diseases in Bahrain. This recognition highlights the effectiveness of the Kingdom’s immunisation programmes and advanced disease surveillance systems.
