Bahrain's parliamentary delegation concludes participation in 16th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA)

Phnom Penh, July 17 (BNA): Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, led by Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker, concluded its participation in the 16th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Cambodia.
Bahrain's parliamentary delegation underscored that the Kingdom has put forward numerous initiatives and legislation aimed at promoting peace at national, regional, and international levels. Bahrain has joined the international community in efforts to strengthen peace and support collective action for stability, development, and prosperity for nations and peoples. The Kingdom has also contributed to developing legislation and institutional mechanisms to support all initiatives that promote moderation, coexistence, and peace.
The delegation expressed great pride in the historic speech delivered by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, before the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a strategic vision and a reference document reflecting Bahrain’s deep understanding of global complexities.
The delegation stressed the need to pause with conscience and responsibility in light of the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip, where the Palestinian people are facing catastrophic conditions amid unprecedented escalation targeting lives, infrastructure, hospitals, and displaced persons’ camps, alongside systematic forced displacement. The delegation noted that these are grave violations of international humanitarian law.
The delegation added that the silence of the international community and the inability of some international organisations to take decisive action has become a serious and legitimate concern, even casting doubt on the credibility of the entire international system.
The delegation underscored the Kingdom’s firm and supportive position for the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, following international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. The delegation called for coordinated international parliamentary action to end the aggression, ensure the protection of civilians, achieve justice, and uphold human dignity.
The participation of Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation in this meeting reflects the legislative authority’s interest in enhancing partnerships and building bridges of cooperation and bilateral coordination with parliaments and legislative councils in friendly countries. This supports the role of Bahraini parliamentary diplomacy in developing inter-parliamentary relations, exchanging expertise and experience, and advancing development and progress.
