Joint statement issued on the UK’s accession to the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement

Washington, July 17 (BNA): Maura Namdar, Senior Official at the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, hosted Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States, and Lucy Ferguson, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Washington, to mark the United Kingdom’s accession to the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA).

The following statement was issued by the Governments of the United States of America, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the United Kingdom on the occasion of this trilateral partnership:

The United States, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the United Kingdom announced the United Kingdom’s accession to the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (C-SIPA), a framework aimed at promoting broader integration in the Middle East, strengthening mutual deterrence against external threats, and expanding cooperation to enhance regional security, stability, and prosperity. The United States and the Kingdom of Bahrain signed C-SIPA on September 13, 2023, with the intention of welcoming additional parties in the future. The United Kingdom’s accession as the third party to C-SIPA took effect on June 19, 2025.

C-SIPA builds on the historic achievement and vision of the Abraham Accords, signed in Washington in September 2020, which created conditions for closer security and commercial ties between countries in and beyond the Middle East that seek peace and prosperity in the region. Since joining the Abraham Accords in 2020, the Kingdom of Bahrain has played a leading and active role in advancing the promise of greater regional integration.

The United States, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the United Kingdom emphasised their shared interest in strengthening strategic cooperation to advance the goals of C-SIPA under its three main pillars: 1) defence and security, 2) economy and trade, and 3) science, technology, and network security.

To advance the objectives of C-SIPA, the three parties plan to launch working groups to enhance strategic cooperation in line with the agreement’s goals, in pursuit of a Middle East marked by greater regional stability, economic cooperation, prosperity, and technological innovation.
