Iranian envoy, Uruguay foreign minister discuss bilateral relations

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s new ambassador to Uruguay, Mojtaba Bani-Assad, and Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin have discussed ties between the two countries, with both emphasizing the importance of expanding economic and trade cooperation.
Bani-Assadi met with Uruguay’s foreign minister on Thursday as he submitted a copy of his credentials to the top diplomat of the South American country.
The Iranian envoy hailed friendly relations between the two countries over the past 122 years, describing them as an asset and a good basis for expanding bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields.
Lubetkin also emphasized the importance of the long-running friendly ties between Iran and Uruguay, calling them a great achievement.
He referred to his recent meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and said that Uruguay continues its international efforts to maintain peace in Latin America.
The Iranian ambassador and the Uruguayan foreign minister both agreed that economic diplomacy is a firm path that helps the two sides develop their relations.
