Dammam Culture House Observes World Chess Day

Dammam, July 22, 2025, SPA -- The Dammam Culture House, strategic partner of Gambit Chess Club, hosted a two-day World Chess Day celebration that concluded yesterday, drawing a distinguished turnout of chess enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds.
The festivities began on the first day with an international chess tournament organized in collaboration with the Saudi Chess Federation and supervised by the International Chess Federation. The competition used the Swiss system consisting of seven intense rounds. A total of 50 players from eight countries competed, with 66% representing Saudi Arabia, alongside participants from the Philippines, England, Hong Kong, China, Egypt, India, Syria, and Jordan.
Gary Abano from the Philippines claimed first place, followed by Mohammed Saad Al-Samaeel from Saudi Arabia, and Hossam Mohammed Abdel-Hafiz from Egypt in third.
In addition to the tournament, the event featured engaging activities such as puzzles and chess challenges, along with a dedicated children’s area for drawing and coloring chess pieces. Several chess champions also shared inspiring stories and insights about their experiences with the game.
