Bahrain delegation attends opening of 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

Geneva, July 29 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation attended the opening session of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva under the theme "A world in turmoil: Parliamentary cooperation and multilateralism for peace, justice and prosperity for all". The event is organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in partnership with the United Nations and runs from July 29-31.
The delegation includes Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council; Abdulnabi Ahmed Salman, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives; and Dr. Bassam Ismaeel Albinmohamed, member of the Shura Council’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security. Ambassador Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, also attended.
The opening session featured keynote speeches by Tatiana Valovaya, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva; Tulia Ackson, President of the IPU; Earle Courtenay Rattray, Chef de Cabinet of the Executive Office of the UN Secretary General; and Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the IPU.
Bahrain’s participation in this conference reflects the Kingdom’s strong commitment to constructive engagement with the international community and demonstrates the maturity and development of its democratic process, which supports its official diplomatic efforts. These events serve as a strategic platform to share Bahrain’s views on regional and global issues, advance its role in global decision-making, and promote values of peace, tolerance and cooperation. They also highlight the vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in deepening relations and expanding partnerships with parliaments worldwide to support security, stability and sustainable development.
The parliamentary delegation will take part in several discussion sessions over the next two days, including topics such as women’s and youth’s participation in parliament during times of division and crisis; innovation for a peaceful future and creating new solutions for a troubled world; achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and opportunities for international cooperation; as well as sessions on the role of parliaments in shaping the digital future, and protecting and promoting the rights of vulnerable groups, aiming for inclusive action against discrimination.
