Al-Araji: The Government Is Keen to Maintain NATO Mission’s Work and Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Baghdad / NINA /- National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji affirmed on Sunday the Iraqi government’s commitment to ensuring the continued work of the NATO Mission in Iraq and to further developing its strategic partnership with the alliance.
A statement from Al-Araji’s media office said that he received in his office the Commander of the NATO Mission in Iraq, Major General Christoph Hentzi, to discuss aspects of cooperation between Iraq’s security institutions, represented by the Ministries of Defense and Interior, and the NATO Mission.
The statement added that the meeting reviewed NATO’s support for Iraqi security agencies in providing advice and enhancing capabilities, particularly in the fields of counterterrorism, drug control, and border security.
According to the statement, the two sides also discussed completing the necessary procedures to ensure the sustainability of the NATO Mission’s work in Iraq following the withdrawal of the International Coalition forces.
Al-Araji emphasized that the Iraqi government attaches great importance to maintaining the work of the non-combat advisory mission and fulfilling all its requirements, in line with the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Brussels.
For his part, Major General Hentzi affirmed the depth and strength of the relationship between the NATO Mission and the Iraqi government, praising the progress and fruitful cooperation between both sides./ End
