Hala Ramzi: Bahrain pursues national initiatives for Carbon Neutrality by 2060

Geneva, Oct. 22 (BNA):  Hala Ramzi Fayez, Member of Shura Council, participated in a workshop held within the meetings of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, as part of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, titled "The effects of Global Warming:  A parliamentary call to protect the most vulnerable."

Fayez highlighted that the Kingdom of Bahrain adopts a comprehensive national approach to addressing climate change through strategies and initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.  She noted that Bahrain views global warming as a global challenge with economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

She affirmed that protecting vulnerable groups from the impacts of climate change is a national and parliamentary priority to ensure climate justice and sustainable development.

Fayez reviewed Bahrain’s main initiatives in this area, including the National Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2060, the Coastal Protection Programme, and support programmes for electricity and water for low-income groups, as well as national capacity-building projects to address environmental risks.

She emphasised the parliament’s role in supporting laws and policies that promote social justice and sustainability, calling for stronger international cooperation and the exchange of experiences to develop effective and innovative climate solutions.
