Saudi Green Building Forum Highlights Saudi Arabia's Readiness for SAAF® System Adaptation at COP30

Belém, November 18, 2025, SPA -- During its participation in the Buildings and Cooling Pavilion at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, the Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF) reviewed the latest developments in climate adaptation within the green building sector under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Now, 30 years into climate negotiations and accumulated knowledge and experience, the forum affirmed that the world is entering a new phase where measuring resilience has become a core component of the future of architecture and construction—going beyond commitments to emission reductions.
The SGBF explained that adopting voluntary and non-prescriptive indicators under the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) and the Baku Adaptation Roadmap (BAR) provides countries with wide flexibility to develop urban standards tailored to national priorities, particularly in regions most exposed to climate pressures such as water scarcity, heat stress, and dust storms.
The forum noted that the growing global focus on assessing buildings’ adaptive capacity is increasing the need for advanced evaluation systems. It emphasized that SAAF® offers a specialized regional framework for measuring sufficiency and resilience through the Composite Sufficiency Index, enabling accurate performance assessments without adding administrative burdens.
The Saudi Green Building Forum is a non-governmental organization with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It serves as a permanent observer of the environment, climate, and desertification across the UN system, contributing to the advancement of environmental and professional work at national and international levels.
