Iraqi Delegation Participates in Global Symposium in Tokyo to Protect Cultural Heritage and Strengthen Youth Engagement

Baghdad/ NINA/ -Dean of Mazaya College, Professor Imad Ibrahim Dawood led a delegation of Iraqi archaeologists to participate in the second symposium held at the Institute for the Preservation of Global Cultural Properties in Tokyo. The event follows the first symposium, which focused on safeguarding Iraqi antiquities from deterioration and enhancing young people's connection to a civilizational heritage that spans more than 7,000 years—where the earliest human civilizations emerged and contributed to the development of writing, mathematics, astronomy, and the earliest civil laws.

During the symposium, Dr. Dawood presented a survey reflecting the views of students from five humanities departments at Al-Mazaya University College. The analysis revealed a significant increase in intellectual engagement among Iraqi youth with their national heritage, which they view as a foundation for strengthening national identity and their bond with the homeland.

Dr. Dawood is scheduled to continue his activities over the next two days with lectures at Kyoto University—home to some of Japan’s earliest cultural sites—and at Maria University, where he will meet with Japanese researchers who have developed advanced technical methods for the preservation and restoration of Iraqi antiquities./ End
